Wellness Care for a Healthy, Happy Pet
Preventive care is a foundation for a good life. When we catch minor issues before they become major, it can drastically improve your pet’s comfort and life expectancy. What does this mean for you? Consistent care from a team of professionals that want the best for your family. You also have the peace of mind of knowing your pet’s health, and how to handle potential problems while at home.
What’s included in a wellness exam? Here’s a list of tests and checks your canine or feline will undergo:
Fecal and Urine Tests
Before you visit us, make certain to attain a fresh fecal and urine sample for us to check. Why? A lot of our clients tell us their pets have diarrhea or other stomach issues. With these samples, we can not only check for worms or other parasites, but also verify your pet is getting the diet and nutrition they need to be strong and healthy! And even if your pet seems fine, they don’t always tell us when they don’t feel good, so these tests can help us determine if everything looks the way it should.
Bloodwork
Annual blood work is beneficial for pets of all ages! We do a full blood panel to check your pet’s overall health, including checking for heartworms, flea, and tick issues. A yearly blood draw helps us identify issues and establish a baseline for your pet. This foundation helps us in future tests if the bloodwork is inconsistent–we can quickly identify what changes your pet might need. Subsequent visits allow us to check up on previous tests to see if there are many major changes.
Skin and Allergy Checks
We give your pet a physical to check for fleas, ticks, rashes, or other allergies in your pet. Signs of allergies in pets can include constant itching or licking, redness on their paws, noses, or bellies.
Nutrition Check
Pets have specialized needs when it comes to food and nutrition. Based on your pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle, we will recommend nutrition choices that maximize your pet’s health. For example, puppies need puppy food because it’s easier to digest than adult dog food. Also, if your pet has allergies, we can recommend nutrition options that align with your pet’s specialized needs.
Behavioral Checks
Sometimes your pet picks up a habit that could create social or health-related challenges, and you don’t know how to help them. We can help! This can be an especially big deal for rehomed, feral, or otherwise saved pets who had to survive in very different circumstances than your loving home.
New Puppy and Kitten
It’s always great to establish a wellness baseline early in your pet’s life. During your initial exam, we’ll establish a timeline of care for vaccines, appointments, and spay/neuter options. We love meeting the babies! Bring them in and introduce them to us.
Microchipping
We can’t stress enough the importance of being able to find your pet in the case of an emergency. Microchipping increases the potential of another person being able to return your pet to you. We offer microchipping to help make the changes of reuniting with your pet stronger through HomeAgain. Another benefit is our microchip system also allows us to take non-invasive temperature readings. We recommend microchipping while your pet is under anesthesia such as when they are spayed, neutered, or getting dental work done.
